Head of Membership & Marketing 

Contract Term: Permanent
Working Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)
Location: Homeworking in the UK, with travel to meetings and events as required
Salary: £80,000 - £85,000

This role has been created to provide clear, senior ownership of the Institute’s membership growth, engagement and brand reach at a point of organisational transformation and ambition. Success in the first 12–18 months will include establishing a clear strategic direction across Membership, Marketing and Events; embedding robust performance measures; and delivering measurable improvements in growth, retention, engagement and organisational visibility.

About the role
The Head of Membership and Marketing is a senior leader and core member of the SLT, responsible for driving sustainable growth, retention, and engagement across the Institute’s membership. The role provides strategic leadership across Membership, Marketing, and Events, aligning these functions into a single engagement approach that strengthens the member journey and supports long-term sustainability. Performance is measured against clear growth, retention, and engagement KPIs, with activity shaped by insight, commercial focus, and close collaboration with SLT colleagues.

What you’ll bring

  • Senior leadership experience within a membership, customer engagement, marketing or subscription-based organisation.

  • Demonstrable success in delivering growth, retention and engagement strategies with measurable impact.

  • Strong strategic and commercial judgement, with the ability to balance mission, member value and financial sustainability.

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams through managers.

  • Confidence operating at executive and board level, with strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.

  • Financial acumen, including budget ownership and performance oversight.

  • Ability to work effectively across functions, maintaining clear role boundaries and accountability.
